GUIDANCE, ADVICE AND RECOMMENDATIONS ON THE ESTABLISHMENT, SITING AND PLANNING OF CREMATORIA

SCOTLAND (only)

With effect from 4 April 2019, a different procedure applies to the opening of new crematoria in Scotland only.  Following the repeal of the Cremation Act 1902, section 59 of the Burial & Cremation (Scotland) Act 2016 now applies to the opening of a new crematorium in Scotland, as well as separate planning/environment permissions.  This guidance note is prepared by the Scottish Government's Burial and Cremation Team.
